Overview

This text provides information regarding the Cancer Center Support Grants (CCSGs) for NCI-designated Cancer Centers under the P30 Clinical Trial Optional program. This funding opportunity encourages applications for the CCSGs that are intended to financially back NCI-designated Cancer Centers. The CCSGs extend support to three types of such centers. These include Comprehensive Cancer Centers, which carry out extensive research in the primary areas of basic laboratory, clinical, and prevention, control and population-based research, and have substantial transdisciplinary research bridging these scientific areas. The second category, Clinical Cancer Centers, are mainly dedicated to basic laboratory, clinical, and prevention-oriented research and controls, or a combination of these. Lastly, Basic Cancer Centers place their primary focus on basic laboratory research.

Regardless of the type, the key objective of all NCI-designated Cancer Centers is to optimally utilize institutional cancer research capabilities by integrating high-quality research into a combined transdisciplinary research endeavor across all institutional boundaries.

The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) expects that the Cancer Centers that get funded under this initiative shall function as key sources of discovering cancer characteristics and developing more efficient methods of prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. They are also anticipated to contribute significantly to the enhancement of Shared Resources that back research. Furthermore, they are expected to collaborate and coordinate their research tasks with other NCI-funded initiatives and investigators, and to circulate the findings of their research to benefit the wider community.
