Overview
The NRT program is dedicated to equipping STEM graduate students with efficacious training in interdisciplinary and convergent research areas of high priority. This is achieved through a comprehensive and innovative traineeship model that is evidence-based and aligns with the evolving workforce and research demands.
The NSF requests for program proposals that focus on any interdisciplinary or convergent research theme of national priority. The NRT's focus extends to workforce development, promoting broad participation and addressing institutional capacity building needs in graduate education.
The program encourages project proposals that encompass strategic collaborations with various sectors. These include the private sector, non-governmental organizations, government agencies, national laboratories, field stations, teaching and learning centers, informal science centres, and academic partners.
Particular emphasis is given to proposals incorporating collaboration with the NSF Inclusion across the Nation of Communities of Learners of Underrepresented Discoverers in Engineering and Science (INCLUDES) project. The NRT welcomes projects that harness the INCLUDES' efforts to harness STEM talent from all groups and sectors across society.
Furthermore, collaborations between NRT proposals and existing NSF INCLUDES projects are highly encouraged. These cooperative efforts are aimed at fortifying both the NRT and INCLUDES projects.
