Overview

The Single Cell Opioid Responses in the Context of HIV (SCORCH) Program is developing an initiative that will not involve clinical trials. Its main goal is to utilize SCORCH data to identify specific cell types, transcripts, enhancers, and transcriptional networks that influence molecular responses in HIV/AIDS treatment (ART) or substance use disorders (SUD).

The initiative also aims to conduct validation studies to substantiate or refute the biological roles of the previously identified elements in the molecular responses to HIV/AIDS treatment or SUD. This could involve methods like epigenomic or transcriptomic manipulation, or high throughput secondary screening.

The information gained from this initiative is expected to provide a strong base of knowledge about the molecular mechanisms involved in SUD and/or HIV/AIDS treatment. It's hoped to generate validated targets, which could act as a basis for creating new treatments for both substance use disorders and HIV, including therapies that address NeuroHIV cognitive phenotypes.
