Overview

The NIAID and NIDDK Research Opportunities for New and "At-Risk" Investigators to Promote Workforce Diversity is a grant program that aims to support research projects aligned with the missions of either the NIAID or the NIDDK. This funding opportunity is open to two types of investigators: New Investigators (NI) and "At-Risk" investigators.

New Investigators are individuals who have not previously received significant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). On the other hand, "At-Risk" investigators are those who have previously received support as a Principal Investigator (PI) on a substantial independent research award. However, unless they are successful in securing a substantial research grant in the current fiscal year, they will have no funding in the following fiscal year.

The program specifically targets individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that are underrepresented in the health-related sciences. The main goal of this funding opportunity is to encourage researchers to submit applications for research projects that align with the missions of either the NIAID or the NIDDK.
