Overview

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering a funding opportunity to support preliminary studies examining the effectiveness of music-based interventions on aging-related brain disorders. This initiative, called "Feasibility Trials of the NIH Music-based Interventions Toolkit for Brain Disorders of Aging (R34 Clinical Trial Required)", aims to validate the principles outlined by the NIH's Music-based Interventions (MBI) Toolkit and to gather critical initial data for designing future, more expansive clinical studies.

The main focus of these early phase clinical trials is to build on the foundation made by the NIH MBI Toolkit and use it in the context of aging-related brain disorders. The goal is to address existing gaps in scientific understanding that will aid the design of a large-scale clinical trial.

The brain disorders of aging that the study can explore include, but are not limited to, Alzheimer's disease, Alzheimer's-related dementias, Parkinson's disease, and stroke. The data collected will guide the scientific community in the development of a competitive and significant large-scale clinical trial. The hope is that these music-based interventions will prove to be a beneficial therapy for these brain disorders.
