Overview

The NIH's Brain Development Cohorts (NBDC) has introduced a program called Biospecimen Access (X01), which is strictly not a clinical trial. This initiative is linked with the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study - the most extensive longitudinal research into brain development and child health in the country. This study comprises data from over 11,000 children across the U.S., beginning at the age range of 9-10 years and extending for ten years.

Throughout the study, apart from behavioral evaluations, participants also contribute to neuroimaging and supply biospecimens. These biological samples include saliva for hormone testing, urine, and hair for examining substance use and exposure. Deciduous teeth collected are useful for environmental exposure data, while donated blood helps a comprehensive analysis, ranging from genetics to metabolic and hematologic evaluations.

Investigators are freely allowed to apply for this resource access, which would essentially involve biological samples from the ABCD Study. For further details about the ABCD Study, one can visit their official website www.abcdstudy.org. Information about applying for access to these research resources is available on the NIDA funding opportunities page at: https://nida.nih.gov/funding/nida-funding-opportunities/nih-brain-development-cohorts-biospecimen-access-program.
