The underlying goal of the Outstanding Investigator Award is to motivate investigators to undertake bolder research, develop new techniques, or explore unconventional paths of inquiry in their cancer research. The award is unique in that it allows institutions to nominate qualified Program Directors or Principal Investigators for the award.
By providing extended funding stability, the NCI hopes to stimulate researchers' enthusiasm to embark on ambitious projects with the potential to drastically impact cancer research. This may include pioneering new areas of study, expanding on existing findings in innovative ways, or developing new applications that could lead to significant advancements in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical aspects of cancer research.
