Overview
There's a particular focus on emerging responses like long-term Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). The grant also aims to address the social factors that affect health outcomes in relation to HIV and substance misuse, especially those which particularly impact sexual and gender minorities such as homelessness and criminal justice involvement.
The changing definitions in sexual minority identities, which may affect outreach programs and potential stigma while providing services, is another area that needs to be more completely integrated into interventions.
This initiative is designed to aid research into these areas, with support for projects that are epidemiological, interventional, or related to implementation. The focus will be on understanding HIV in the context of simultaneously occurring conditions, whether they're sexually transmitted infections, hepatitis C, or psychiatric disorders.
