Overview

The grant named "Biology of Bladder Cancer (R21 Clinical Trial Optional)" is actively seeking applicants interested in researching the biological aspects and root causes of bladder cancer. This disease is a major healthcare issue, not only in the United States, but also worldwide. Its prevalence and tendency for resurgence put a high demand on medical resources.

Despite recent developments in pinpointing mutated genes and creating molecular profiles of bladder cancers, there is still a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the molecular mechanisms that initiate and propel bladder cancer, or cause it to become malignant. Also, the comprehension of the biological operations of a normal bladder, from molecular to cellular and organ level, is still lacking.

By procuring a basic understanding of how the functions of the bladder, at both molecular and cellular levels, become altered during cancer, it's hoped that we can improve our knowledge about the biology of bladder cancer and related therapeutic interventions. Applications are especially welcomed from multidisciplinary teams. Studies involving the use of clinical specimens or researching both typical and cancer-related processes are particularly encouraged.
