Overview

The HEAL Initiative is offering Career Development Awards in Implementation Science for Substance Use Prevention and Treatment. These grants are specifically meant for early career researchers and clinician scholars who have a basic understanding of addiction issues. The grant offers them an opportunity to expand their knowledge in implementation science.

Candidates are expected to propose training modules in implementation science methods and a research project that applies these modules to at least one of four domains highlighted by the HHS Overdose Prevention Strategy. These domains include primary prevention (such as responsible opioid prescribing), treatment of opioid use disorders (OUD), harm reduction, and recovery support services.

The primary aim of the HEAL Initiative with these awards is to cultivate a group of specialized researchers who can help tackle the ongoing overdose crisis. By supporting these researchers, the initiative hopes to improve the quality of addiction clinical practice and foster a new generation of experts and mentors in implementation science.

To apply, a clinical trial is required as part of the K23 Career Development process.
