Overview

The Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) is the organization aiming at planning, coordinating, and executing the fundamental research program for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). This is done in accordance with the technical instruction received from the AFRL team and the set requirements of the Air Force.

Moreover, the AFOSR is responsible for nurturing, backing, and executing research undertakings collaboratively with Air Force, industry laboratories, and universities. In doing so, it ensures the outcomes of these research activities are transferred effectively to support the needs of the US Air Force.

The major concentration of AFOSR's research is centered on areas that promise significant and extensive advantages to our nation's warfighting and peacekeeping capabilities. The research areas are structured and administrated within two major scientific departments: Engineering and Information Science (RTA), Physical and Biological Sciences (RTB).

Additionally, their international offices include EAORD, SOARD, and AOARD. Each of these departments coordinates specific research activities, which are outlined in their respective sections.
