Overview
This type of invasive neural recording provides a unique insight into the human brain, offering a chance to delve deeply into the neural circuitry and dynamics that govern complex moods, emotions, cognitive functions, and behaviors. Through this process, researchers can observe these functions and behaviors in great detail, in both space and time.
An added advantage is that the same electrodes used for invasive recording can also be used for stimulation, enabling direct testing by modulating network dynamics, providing further valuable data.
The grant is designed to fill a gap in our scientific understanding of neural circuit function related to mental health disorders. As such, researchers are urged to focus on specific questions suited to this invasive recording method and which also have a high potential for translation into improved understanding of mental health disorders.
It's worth noting, however, that this grant is specifically for studies into existing knowledge and practices. Any work that seeks to develop new technologies or therapies is not within the scope of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).
