Overview

The Mentored Career Transition Award for NIMH Intramural Fellows (K22) is a two-stage, developmental grant designed to assist eligible postdoctoral fellows transition from their current research positions in the NIMH Division of Intramural Programs (DIRP) to extramural, tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions at qualified U.S. institutions. This grant program focuses on supporting fellows during their transition, particularly during the extramural phase where it provides research support to help them establish competitive, independent research programs.

While the grant offers mentorship during both stages of the transition process, it is essential to note that this particular Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is only applicable to proposed research that does not entail leading an independent clinical trial, a feasibility study, or supplementary study to a clinical trial. However, applicants are free to propose gaining experience in a clinical trial led by a mentor or co-mentor.

If an applicant wishes to propose a clinical trial or a supplemental study to an ongoing clinical trial as the lead investigator, they should apply to the companion Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) with reference PA-18-NNN. Clinical trials are not permitted within the scope of this specific grant program.
