Overview

The Mentored Career Transition Award for Intramural Fellows (K22 Clinical Trials Required) is an award program designed to help qualified postdoctoral fellows transition from their current positions within the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Division of Intramural Programs to academic tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions at eligible institutions within the U.S.

The award program is structured in two stages, both of which are mentored. The first phase takes place while the postdoctoral fellow is still working within the NIMH, while the second phase assists the recipient as they begin their new position at an external establishment. Additionally, the award provides necessary research support to the awardee during the external stage in order to kick-start competitive, independent research programs.

This particular funding opportunity is designed for applicants who wish to lead independent clinical trials or a clinical trial feasibility study. It might also be suitable for those wishing to orchestrate a separate study related to an existing trial, as part of their own research and career development.

For those applicants who don’t plan to conduct an independent clinical trial, or who aim to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator, a different application to a companion Funding Opportunity Announcement, known as FOA (PA-18-NNN), is necessary.
