Overview

The Division of Chemistry is currently undergoing a pilot program where deadlines for proposal submissions to three specific programs are removed. These programs are the Chemistry of Life Processes (CLP), Chemical Structure, Dynamics, and Mechanisms-A (CSDM-A), and Chemical Theory, Models and Computational Methods (CTMC).

This change is intended to give researchers more flexibility and encouragement to engage in interdisciplinary research. However, it is acknowledged that the new approach could lead to unforeseen impacts for principle investigators, reviewers, and institutions.

All proposals for these three programs must be submitted via this specific method, the only exceptions being those for the Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER), which must be submitted through the CAREER solicitation, and the Facilitating Research at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions: Research in Undergraduate Institutions (RUI) and Research Opportunity Awards (ROA) programs, which must be submitted through the RUI/ROA solicitation.

Moreover, starting from September 1, 2022, proposals for these three programs via the RUI/ROA solicitation can be submitted at any time. After consultation with the relevant NSF Program Officer, proposals for Early-concept Grants for Exploratory Research (EAGER), Grants for Rapid Response Research (RAPID), Research Advanced by Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering (RAISE) and conferences can be submitted anytime.

The Principal Investigators can also apply for supplemental funding for existing grants at any time after consultation with the relevant NSF Program Officer while using the FastLane procedure until the capability is integrated in Research.gov.
