Overview

The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is inviting applications for the Silvio O. Conte Centers for Basic Neuroscience or Translational Mental Health Research Grant. This particular grant is conducted with the support of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), who is specifically looking for teams of researchers that work across multiple levels of analysis utilising innovative and integrative approaches.

The primary focus for this study should be high-risk, high-impact questions. The specific objectives of these research efforts should include: (a) progressing the general understanding of brain and behavioral science which will help reveal and delve into the fundamental mechanisms, forming the basis for understanding mental disorders, (b) fostering the integration and application of basic neuroscience and clinical neuroscience research into severe mental illnesses and/or, (c) furthering our knowledge of neurobehavioral developmental mechanisms and trajectories of psychopathology initiated in childhood and adolescence.

The Conte Centers program looks to support basic neuroscience or translational research that demonstrate an exceptional level of synergy, integration, and potential for advancing the state of the field. Please note, this grant is designated for projects that simply cannot be accomplished using more standard grant programs. As such, the program is relevant for those looking to innovate beyond the traditional research methods. This opportunity is also inclusive of clinical trials.
