Overview

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is providing a funding opportunity termed as TOPMed: Omics Phenotypes of Heart, Lung, and Blood Disorders. This grant is not meant for a clinical trial. The NHLBI is inviting applications that utilize its TransOmics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program to generate extensive and integrated genetic and multi-omics data. This will aid in the discovery of molecular mechanisms that trigger heart, lung, blood, and sleep (HLBS) disorders.

The key objective of this funding opportunity is to advance the program from simply mapping genetic data to unwrapping the associated mechanisms (M2). This is intended to fill existing knowledge gaps that the current TOPMed datasets have not adequately addressed.

It’s important to note that there will be no monetary support provided under this funding opportunity. However, the data generated, encompassing the omics and other related phenotypic data, will be added to a public, NIH-designated controlled-access database. This could potentially be either the database for Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP) or the NHLBI's BioData Catalyst (BDC).
