Overview
The Substance Use/Substance Use Disorder Dissertation Research Award (R36 Clinical Trials Not Allowed) is a grant designed to financially support doctoral candidates from various academic fields for up to two years while they complete research projects for their dissertations. The research projects must be compatible with the funding priorities of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which can be found on their website (https://www.drugabuse.gov/funding/funding-priorities) or within the NIDA's Strategic Plan (https://www.drugabuse.gov/about-nida/2016-2020-nida-strategic-plan). The award aims to encourage and ease the entry of potential new researchers into the field of substance use and substance use disorder (SU(D). These potential researchers are expected to significantly enrich the pool of talented experts in SU(D) research. Candidates who can help diversify the research workforce are especially encouraged to apply, as detailed in the Notice of NIH's Interest in Diversity (NOT-OD-20-031).
