Overview
Applicants should focus their studies on the function of brain circuits within specific neural systems. These systems may involve sensation, perception, attention, reasoning, intention, decision-making, emotion, navigation, communication, or homeostasis. It is essential for these projects to combine theory with data analysis in experimental design and to develop predictive modeling.
The projects should aim to enhance the understanding of the central nervous system's circuits. They would do this by systematically controlling stimuli or behavior while simultaneously recording or manipulating the dynamic patterns of neural activity.
The use of both non-human and human species in these projects is permitted. However, applicants must provide a detailed explanation demonstrating why their chosen species is ideal for uncovering the fundamental principles of the circuit basis for a given behavior.
