Overview

This description pertains to the BRAIN Initiative project, also known as Targeted BRAIN Circuits Planning Projects (TargetedBCPP) R34. This initiative, an updated version of RFA-NS-18-014 and RFA-NS-21-014, does not allow clinical trials. Through this call for proposals (FOA), the project seeks applications that provide a concise set of aims and methodologies which can confirm feasibility, validity, or other technical qualifications. Success in these early stages would form the foundation necessary for future related projects, specifically the Targeted Brain Circuits Projects - TargetedBCP R01, referenced in the accompanying FOA (RFA-NS-22-026).

Applicants should focus on exploratory research projects which utilize innovative and integrated methods. The end goal is to better understand the link between brain circuit activity, mental experience, and behavior. The emphasis should be on the inventive combination of different research approaches to gain new insights in neuroscience.
