Overview

The "Accelerating the Pace of Drug Abuse Research Using Existing Data" grant (R21 Clinical Trial Optional) aims to encourage research regarding drug abuse and related behavior. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is calling for applications that propose innovative usage of existing data, such as social science data, behavioral data, administrative data, and neuroimaging data, to study drug use.

The objective is to obtain a deeper understanding of the reasons behind drug use behaviors, which includes the use of alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, and other drugs, and related disorders. It also strives to advance knowledge of drug use prevention methods, including prevention of HIV infection, as well as how health services are utilized.

This FOA advocates for the full potential use of public datasets and any other existing community-based or clinical datasets. The goal is to enhance our understanding of the causes, pathways of drug use behaviors, and their effects, namely health complications and mortality. Additionally, it aims to identify risk and resilience in the development of psychopathology and to shape strategies that could improve the establishment, testing, implementation, and provision of high-quality, effective, and efficient services for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and HIV.
