Overview
An integral part of the focus is to explore new prevention and treatment opportunities that emerge due to these co-infections. The emphasis is on populations that have not been adequately researched in this context. The term "co-infection" includes instances where a person is infected by multiple infectious agents, be they viruses, bacteria, parasites, or other microorganisms, happening together at the same time or one after the other. This can involve either short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic) infections.
