Overview

The Fogarty International Research Training Award (NCD-LIFESPAN) is a funding opportunity aimed at promoting research training in the field of Chronic, Non-Communicable Diseases and Disorders. The goal of this initiative is to strengthen the research capacity of institutions in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs), categorized as such by World Bank standards.

This grant opportunity encourages partnerships between U.S institutions and eligible LMIC institutions. Applications which only involve LMIC institutions are acceptable, provided they have a documented history of external research funding and/or training programs by the leading institution.

The program aims to foster in-country expertise for developing and conducting research on non-communicable diseases throughout an individual's lifespan. The ultimate goal is to use the research findings to develop and implement evidence-based interventions suitable for the specific needs of these countries.

The primary research training focus must coincide with the interests of at least one of the participating NIH ICs, as outlined in the funding opportunity announcement (FOA), but secondary and complementary research interests are also welcome.

This particular grant allows trainees to take the lead on an independent clinical trial, to conduct a separate study related to an existing trial or to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator. This is intended as part of their research and career development.

The current FOA is a reissue, meant to rectify a previous error where TRAINING RECORD review questions were omitted in Section V.
