Overview
The aim of this funding is to boost and consolidate interdisciplinary research in different areas of cancer disparities. This includes a broad range of studies, such as basic, translational, behavioral, observational, interventional, environmental, and population research. All of these should focus on the unequal impact of cancer in terms of incidence, prevalence, mortality, survivorship, response to treatment, and burden in racial and ethnic minorities, and in underserved population groups.
In order to be successful, these proposed collaborations should prioritize research goals that can only be achieved through a range of different expertise, techniques, and resources. Importantly, applicants should ensure that their grant proposal fits within the scope of the original award, expanding the original focus to include an investigation into cancer disparities and potentially international comparator cohorts.
This initiative is a trans-NCI effort, and receives support from various wings of the NCI. These include the Division of Cancer Biology (DCB), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP), Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS), Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) and Center for Global Health.
