Overview

The BRAIN Initiative Connectivity across Scales (BRAIN CONNECTS) is offering a funding opportunity for specialized projects that focus on scalable technologies. The goal of these projects is to further develop current or emerging technologies, which can help create comprehensive atlases of brain connectivity. While the emphasis is placed on human, non-human primate and mouse brain research, projects validating methods using other species are also accepted given appropriate justification.

Applicants can address all aspects of data collection, its subsequent analysis, and the dissemination processes. The intention is to expedite and make economically efficient the generation and interpretation of brain-wide wiring diagrams. The projects are expected to provide unique capabilities and competencies, which may involve enhancing existing technologies or initiating completely new, albeit potentially risky, techniques.

Furthermore, the projects will be incorporated into the BRAIN CONNECTS network, which consists of other specialized projects under this funding opportunity, as well as comprehensive centers from accompanying announcements. This integration creates a coordinated effort aimed at developing wiring diagrams that can span across entire brains and at multiple scales. It is a notable initiative that seeks to enhance understanding of the brain’s complex architecture and connectivity.
