Overview

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is offering a new grant called the Research Projects in Physical Sciences-Oncology under the U01 clinical trial option. This grant is intended to encourage a cooperative agreement for the Physical Sciences-Oncology Network (PS-ON), which aims to merge perspectives and approaches from physical sciences with cancer research. The objective is to improve our understanding of cancer biology and oncology by creating transdisciplinary teams comprising of cancer biologists, physician scientists, and physical scientists such as engineers, physicists, mathematicians, chemists, and computer scientists.

Through this grant, the projects sponsored will serve to facilitate interdisciplinary research that merges physical sciences with cancer study. This will be done through three main channels; promoting a physical sciences viewpoint within the cancer research community, enabling collaborative science and field intersection at the crossroads of physical sciences and cancer research, and testing physical sciences-based experimental and theoretical concepts of cancer collectively.

These projects aim to foster innovative solutions to unanswered questions in cancer research. Thus, by integrating the physical sciences, the network aspires to enrich the landscape of cancer research, providing innovative and collaborative solutions for the future.
