Overview

The "Accelerating the Pace of Drug Abuse Research Using Existing Data" grant is designed to further the study of drug abuse, inviting individuals to submit applications that suggest innovative usage of pre-existing data across various fields. This data may come from areas like social science, behavioral studies, administrative records, and neuroimaging data, and should focus on the motive and prevalence of different drug-using behaviors, encompassing alcohol, tobacco, prescription and other drug use.

The grant's purpose is not only to further understand drug use but to enhance knowledge in associated areas such as the prevention of drug use and HIV, and the utilization of health services. It encourages examination and exploration of public and clinical datasets for a deeper understanding of drug use patterns, the after-effects including health deterioration and death rates, resilience and risk factors in psychopathology development, and more.

The ultimate goal of the grant is to guide the conception, examination, implementation, and distribution of high-quality, effective, and proficient services for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and HIV. By fully utilizing the potential of existing data, the grant aims to offer unprecedented insights into drug abuse and the best strategies to combat it.
