Overview

The High-End Instrumentation (HEI) Grant Program is a funding opportunity sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that is not applicable to clinical trials. It is aimed at assisting groups of NIH-supported researchers in acquiring or upgrading a single piece of sophisticated and specialized commercial equipment or integrated systems.

The base award amount is $600,001, but can extend up to $2,000,000. Notably, there isn't a set limit on how costly the equipment or system can be. This grant caters to a wide variety of instruments and systems that aid in various kinds of biomedical research projects.

The list of supported equipment ranges from biomedical imaging machines, high throughput robotic screening systems, X-ray diffractometers, to mass spectrometers and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers. It also includes DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, electron and light microscopes, flow cytometers, and additional types of biomedical imaging equipment.
