Overview

The Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG) Program is an initiative that encourages applications from groups of investigators who are supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The focus of this program is on the purchase or upgrading of a single, specialized and costly commercial instrument, or an integrated instrumentation system. Supported instruments include, but are not limited to, flow cytometers, electron and light microscopes, X-ray diffractometers, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, mass spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, and biomedical imagers.

It's important to note that while there is no maximum price limit for the instrument being purchased or upgraded, the maximum grant that can be awarded is limited to $600,000. The smallest possible grant award is $50,000. Also, this program specifically states that it does not support clinical trials.
