Overview

The Stimulating Access to Research in Residency (StARR) (R38) grant is designed to attract and retain exceptional postdoctoral health professionals interested in becoming clinician-investigators. It aims to address the rising need for these professionals in the research field.

Through this grant, the program encourages applications from established institutional programs able to provide superior research guidance for Resident-Investigators, enhancing their transition into independent career development research awards.

The StARR grant provides financial aid for institutions to support Resident-Investigators for up to two years. These professionals will be doing their research in well-structured programs specifically for clinician-investigators, with clear program milestones to follow.

Importantly, this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is tailored for applicants who do not intend to lead an independent clinical trial, feasibility study, or an ancillary study in alignment with a clinical trial. However, the grant does allow applicants to propose gaining research experience in a clinical trial directed by a mentor or co-mentor.
