Overview
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications for research on cancer causes and early detection markers. The research should utilise the resources of the NCI-sponsored Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer (PLCO) Screening Trial. The PLCO's Biorepository provides quality, serial pre-diagnostic blood samples from participants in the trial, along with a one-time collection of mouth cell samples from the control group. Data available with these samples includes participants’ demographic, dietary, lifestyle, smoking, screening results, and clinical data. This FOA supports a range of cancer research such as biochemical and genetic analyses of cancer risk, as well as the discovery and validation of early detection markers. The proposed research must involve the use of PLCO biospecimens and harness the unique value of these samples. Research projects that don’t involve the use of PLCO biospecimens won’t qualify for this funding.
