Overview

The Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award aims to promote diversity within the field of science. Targeting early career, independent investigators from varying backgrounds, the MOSAIC Postdoctoral Career Transition Award is focused on aiding research in areas connected to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) mission.

Long-term, the program aims to enhance diversity in the research workforce for basic biomedical sciences. Its design is intended to provide valuable support to promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds as they transition from mentored, postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track, or equivalent faculty positions at research-intensive institutions.

The MOSAIC program provides independent NIH research support during this critical transition period. This is intended to enable award winners to launch competitive, independent research careers effectively.

A further feature of the program includes the formation of organized scientific cohorts of MOSAIC scholars. These individuals will be expected to participate in a range of activities aimed at enhancing their professional development, mentorship and networking opportunities. These activities will be coordinated by recipients of the MOSAIC Institutionally-Focused Research Education Award to Promote Diversity (UE5).
