Overview
The grant, known as an R21 grant, is intended for new investigators who have received less than $125,000 in combined research funding, excluding National Institutes of Health (NIH) training and career awards. It is particularly suitable for projects that can be accomplished in a short amount of time using limited resources.
One of the main goals of the R21 grant is to ease the investigator's transition to research independence. It supports a range of different projects, including pilot and feasibility studies, secondary data analysis, small-scale research projects, research methodology development, and new research technology development. Clinical trials are optional under this grant.
