Overview
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and National Institute on Aging (NIA) have put forth this grant to encourage research in several areas. These include the identification and design of potential therapeutic compounds, taking new treatments from a basic idea to a potential cure (hit-to-lead chemistry), later stage optimization to make the drugs more effective and easier for the body to process (pharmacokinetics), and initial research into how the drugs are metabolized in the body.
Special priority will be given to projects that present a unique approach to identifying treatments. The primary mission is to develop over time new, effective treatments for disorders of the nervous system through the application of pharmacological science.
