Overview
The funding opportunity invites research projects that aim to explore the dynamics, processes, and paths of how social relationships impact human health outcomes, including illness, recovery, and overall wellbeing. The studies should be designed to enhance the scientific understanding of social connectedness and isolation phenomena.
The kind of projects that should be submitted under this grant matter should be those that assign human participants to various conditions in a prospective or experimental fashion. The projects should investigate and measure, biomedical and/or behavioral outcomes so as to dissect the basic nature of social connectedness and isolation.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) identifies these kind of studies as basic science research involving human subjects and considers them a part of clinical trials. These studies are aimed at understanding inherent aspects of phenomena without a particular, immediate application or product in mind.
If you are proposing studies that involve research on animals or observational studies involving humans, you should apply under the companion Clinical Trials Not Allowed version of this funding opportunity announcement.
