Overview
The goals of the grant also include establishing theoretical models that can accurately predict the development of alcohol tolerance and progression into an alcohol use disorder. This grant will be implemented in two stages, the R21 phase and the R33 phase.
The initial phase, R21, may involve secondary data analysis or pilot studies to develop the hypotheses. This is followed by the R33 phase which expands on research to test those hypotheses. The shift from the R21 phase to the significantly detailed R33 phase will be decided by the NIAAA program staff. The decision will be based upon successfully meeting the specific milestones set for the first stage. Please note that the inclusion of a clinical trial is optional in this grant.
