Overview
This award differs from others in that it supports an entire research program rather than a single research project. As the primary, and possibly exclusive, source of NHLBI funding on individual grants, the EIA is dedicated to fostering innovation and productivity in the scientific field. It does so by enabling researchers to conduct groundbreaking studies or to take their previous findings in new, exploratory directions.
Recipients of the EIA are encouraged to take scientific risks and conduct their research over an extended timeframe. This award extends to a period of up to seven years, affording ample time to delve deeply into HLBS research. However, it's crucial that the scope of their research aligns with the NHLBI's mission. More details regarding the mission can be found on the NHLBI website.
