Overview

The NIA Predoctoral Fellowship Award is aimed at promoting diversity in translational research for Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (AD/ADRD). The funding opportunity announcement (FOA) aims to increase diversity within the workforce conducting this specified research. This initiative will focus on building skills in data science and drug discovery, which can be employed in various elements of AD/ADRD research. This could range from population studies to research that could lead to groundbreaking treatments and diagnosis methods. Behavioral and social research aspects will be included too.

The scheme will sponsor training for promising predoctoral candidates from different backgrounds to help them acquire vital data science and drug discovery skills. The long-term objective of this programme is to create a diverse, competent workforce for translational research. The trained professionals will be fully equipped to engage or even lead a scientific team in implementing precision medicine tactics for AD/ADRD treatment, prevention, early detection, as well as for disease management and care.
