Overview

The Transition to Independent Environmental Health Research (TIEHR) Career Award is a three-year development program aimed at supporting new faculty members looking to build a career in environmental health sciences research. The TIEHR Career Award (designated as K01), focuses on basic experimental studies involving humans.

The aim of the program is to prepare these faculty members to successfully contest for research funding in the field of environmental health sciences, upon the completion of their career development period under the grant.

The award requires all applications to propose basic science experimental studies which involve human participants. Such studies, as outlined in the NOT-OD-18-212 notice, must meet the National Institute of Health's definition of a clinical trial and basic research. In essence, they must be prospective basic science studies incorporating human participants.

This funding opportunity is intended to serve as a bridge for scholars transitioning from academia to independent research-focused roles in the environmental health sciences field.
