Overview

The Blueprint Neurotherapeutics Network (BPN) is offering a funding opportunity for the discovery and development of biologic-based drugs aimed at treating disorders of the nervous system. This grant, called Biologic-based Drug Discovery and Development for Disorders of the Nervous System (UG3/UH3), supports the process from initial discovery through to phase I clinical testing. It also offers the optional participation in a clinical trial.

Covering a broad spectrum, the funding supports the evolution of potential therapeutic Biotech Products and Biologics. This includes various innovative treatments such as large biologic macromolecules (like proteins, antibodies, and peptides), gene-focused therapies (like oligonucleotide- and viral-based therapies), cell therapies, and emerging therapies such as microbial and microbiome therapies.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with consultants funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additionally, they can utilize NIH-contracted research organizations that specialize in the manufacturing, scaling, pharmacokinetic study, toxicology, and phase I clinical testing of their biotherapeutic candidates.

One significant advantage for awarded institutions is that they will retain their Intellectual Property (IP) rights. Furthermore, they will also gain the IP rights from the contractors of BPN-Biologics. This gives the institutions control over patent prosecution and licensing negotiations for the biotherapeutic candidates they develop under this program.
