Overview

The NINDS Faculty Development Award to Promote Diversity in Neuroscience Research (K01) is a grant aimed at enriching the field of neuroscience research by supporting underrepresented junior faculty. This grant (a reissue of PAR-18-486) is specially designed for independent investigators who must undertake a clinical trial as part of their research and career development.

The NINDS award offers research-cost support, protected research time and career-stage appropriate professional development mentorship to eligible candidates. To qualify, applicants must come from backgrounds that are usually underrepresented in biomedical research, possess doctorate research degrees (like Ph.D or equivalent), and be in their first 3 years of tenure track (or equivalent) faculty position at the time of the application.

The grant supports applicant proposals that involve leading an independent clinical trial, a feasibility study of a clinical trial, or a separate ancillary study to an existing trial. However, NINDS will only accept applications for this grant if the proposed trials meet NIH’s definition of a clinical trial and align with NINDS research priorities. It upholds the necessity of human mechanistic trials or studies.

Before submitting an application involving human subjects, applicants are highly recommended to consult with the NINDS program staff to identify the most suitable funding opportunity.
