Overview
The award is divided into two phases. First, it assists students in completing their doctoral dissertation, known as the F99 phase. It then aids the transition to postdoctoral research, or the K00 phase. This research can span a range of topics including scientific, medical, ethical, social and legal issues in genomics research.
By successfully completing these two phases, students should gain enough knowledge and experience to pursue a career as independent genomics researchers. However, this funding does not allow students to lead an independent clinical trial. Students can propose to gain research experience in a clinical trial, but this trial would have to be led by a sponsor or co-sponsor.
