Overview

The "Understanding and Modifying Temporal Dynamics of Coordinated Neural Activity" grant (also known as R01) is designed to promote scientific projects that examine if changes in electrophysiological patterns can enhance cognitive, emotional, and social processing. This research can be performed on either animals or humans. Additionally, it is anticipated that a similar but separate R21 grant will accompany this R01 opportunity.

The main objective of these grants is to motivate researchers in exploring how adjusting specific patterns of coordinated neural activity can improve cognitive, social, or emotional processes. Proposed studies should draw upon a thorough understanding of how specific neural activity patterns play a role in different areas. Examples could include information routing within the brain and improving the ability to influence local processing through the synchronization of underlying oscillatory activity. All of these activities need to be 'in vivo', meaning in the living body of a plant or animal.
