Overview

This grant, entitled 'Early Stage Investigator Research Using Nonhuman Primate (NHP) Models (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)', aims to specially support early-stage investigators, or ESIs, who are initiating basic or translational research involving nonhuman primates. This support is aimed at not only providing additional funding for research, but also allotting more time for the generation of preliminary data.

Through this grant, ESIs will gain the ability and resources necessary to establish and independently operate a Nonhuman Primate laboratory. It is the hope that this grant will thus enable these researchers to secure larger, more substantial research awards in the future, like the R01 grant, for example. This is also expected to facilitate their transition into independent, tenure-track positions, thereby advancing their research careers.
