Overview
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers the Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research (also known as K24). This grant is specifically designed to help mid-career health professionals who hold doctorate degrees. The goal of this award is to aid these professionals by providing protected time for them to spend exclusively on patient-oriented research (POR). A supplementary aim of this award is to enable these experienced professionals to serve as research mentors. Their mentoring would mostly be directed towards clinical residents, clinical fellows, and junior clinical faculty. Independent clinical trials, however, are not permitted under this award.
