Overview
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers a Pathway to Independence Award, also known as the K99/R00 program, that does not allow independent clinical trials. This program aims to foster and sustain a group of skillful, fresh and inventive investigators who are supported by the NIH. It is structured to help exceptional postdoctoral researchers owning a research and/or clinical doctorate degree shift from mentored, postdoctoral research jobs to independent, tenure-track, or similar faculty work positions. As a crucial part of this transition, the NIH also provides unique research support to program beneficiaries to accelerate the start of their competitive, independent research professions.
