Overview

The NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00), with an independent clinical trail requirement, was created to foster and retain a robust group of fresh and gifted investigators who are backed by the NIH. This award program aims to help exceptional postdoctoral researchers, possessing a research and/or clinical doctorate degree, make a swift transition from guided research roles to independent faculty positions that are equivalent to a tenure-track. The NIH offers independent research support during this transition phase to assist the awardees in starting competitive, independent research careers.
