Overview

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers a Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research, also known as the K24 award. This grant is designed to facilitate health-professional doctorates who are in the middle stages of their career. The award offers protected time for these individuals to focus on patient-oriented research (POR), a form of study that directly involves human subjects or uses material from humans, such as tissues or cells. In addition, recipients of the K24 award are encouraged to guide and mentor junior colleagues, including clinical residents, fellows, and beginning faculty, in their own research pursuits.
