Overview

The Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award, also known as the K25 award, is a funding initiative designed to encourage professionals who specialize in quantitative science and engineering to dedicate their research to health and disease related questions, areas that have not been their primary focus before. It is seeking to appeal to experts in areas such as mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, imaging science, informatics, physics and chemistry.

The primary objective of the K25 award is to attract these professionals to carry out research that is relevant and important to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). To achieve this, the K25 award offers funding as well as a period of "protected time". This protected time is essentially a dedicated timeframe for recipients to engage in supervised study and research, allowing them to combine their specialized knowledge with NIH-related research.
