Overview

The Mentored Quantitative Research Development Award (K25), sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), aims to bring quantitative scientists and engineers into health-related research who have not primarily investigated health and disease questions in the past. By providing funding and "protected time," the K25 award offers a period of supervised study and research for professionals in fields such as mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, imaging science, informatics, physics, and chemistry. The goal is to enable these professionals to merge their expertise with health and disease research relevant to the NIH.

However, this funding does not support independent clinical trials, clinical trial feasibility studies, or ancillary clinical trials led by the applicant. Nonetheless, applicants can propose research experience within a clinical trial that is led by their mentor or co-mentor. In cases where the applicant seeks to propose or lead a clinical trial or ancillary trial, they should apply to a different Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). This particular Funding Opportunity Announcement is structured specifically for applicants who intend to conduct research that doesn't involve leading a clinical trial.
